Abstract

As certain studies demonstrate, a considerable number of teenagers still have not discovered the pleasure of reading. Therefore, this thesis aims to highlight this pleasure to teenagers, from 12 to 15 years old, by introducing them to some books by Quebec French authors. These books, which have the qualities to induce or revive the pleasure of reading, were originally intended for a teenage or adult audience. We have based our book choices on selected reading and reception theories and in regard to literary reviews. In order to bring up the interest in teenagers, we have created a Web site entitled Lecture Ado to act as a display for the books we suggest. By doing so, we wish to create an inviting first impression for the youth, and to give them the desire to find the books that appeal to them in a bookstore or to rent them from the library. The Web site suggest different titles to visitors in regards to their personal tastes, grouped according to different categories such as fantasy, detective, adventure novels, etc. Each novel's Web page includes the presentation of the author as well as a summary which provides an insight into the work. The teenager should be able to associate the idea of reading to that of leisure and relaxation, rather than to the stress linked to academic reading assessment.* *This dissertation is a compound document (contains both a paper copy and a CD as part of the dissertation). The CD requires the following system requirements: Internet browser.
