The modern construction of formal social system models in various disciplines has been going on for at least a generation now. These models try to describe, inscribe, and prescribe certain aspects of social behavior aiming to improve our knowledge or control of interhuman relations. The complexity of social systems however has always limited these models either in depth of breadth. This trade-off between qualitative and quantitative aspects is perhaps in the nature of things, so it still remains to find a golden mean which optimizes both.
