Abstract

St. Martin of Tours had a significant impact on the development of Christianity throughout northern Europe. No other Saint is as heavily represented in France today as St. Martin of Tours. Clearly this man was an exceptional representative of the church. But what events helped to shape him into the man we know him as today? Why is he unique among his contemporaries for that matter? Perhaps the most intriguing aspect to this man is his unyielding nature in the opposition of evil. If that is in fact the case, what sort of influence did evil have on the development of this man? Perhaps if one could identify what the term evil means in terms of St. Martin, one could then proceed to identify what makes St. Martin unique
