Articles and More Checklist

Concordia University strongly encourages its scholars to deposit their research in Spectrum. We encourage Concordia researchers, professors, librarians, and post-doctoral fellows to make their research articles and related forms of research openly accessible.

Assess which materials can be deposited in Spectrum.

Research articles and book chapters

  • Start by learning the basics of Author Rights and versioning. Best practices include keeping a record of your publishing agreements.
  • You must verify which version of the article or book chapter you can deposit. Are you depositing the submitted version (also known as preprint) OR a peer-reviewed version? The accepted version (also known as postprint) and the published version (also known as version of record) are considered peer-reviewed. Ways to verify which version is permitted include:
    • Open Policy Finder, a not-for-profit database devoted to keeping an updated record of publisher policies on self-archiving.
    • Journal or book publisher’s website.
    • Your publishing agreement.

Other item types

Spectrum item types include technical reports, project reports, conference items, video, audio, and datasets. Be sure to verify our Guidelines on file formats and file size. You might consider depositing the following:

  • Parts of the research cycle before or after peer review, such as datasets. For research data, you may also want to consider Dataverse.
  • Parts of your research-creation project so that it appears open access as part of your scholarly record.
  • Traces of your research mobilization activities suited to Spectrum.

Recommended

Consider the benefits of having an ORCID ID, get started with ORCID, and consider connecting Spectrum to ORCID.

Need help?

Librarians and staff on the Spectrum Team can help. Note: Faculty members can assign one of their Concordia research assistants or lab technicians to deposit a series of items on their behalf, so long as they let the Spectrum team know. Let us know if you need help: lib-spectrum@concordia.ca.
