Abstract
"This short novel is set in mid-town Toronto and details a crisis in the life of a young professional couple... The novel proceeds by offering the protagonist, Elizabeth Pendleton, increasingly broad chances to recognize the nature of her relationship with her lover, Nick, as well as with larger society... The novel treats issues of race, gender and class in its examination of what it suggests is the contemporary crisis in our understanding of civitas"
