Abstract

Cette étude phénoménologique a pour but de documenter la pratique de la musicothérapie en santé mentale adolescente, et plus précisément les séances réalisées avec des groupes d’adolescents à court terme. En dépit des besoins avérés de ce type de populations et des effets prometteurs de la musicothérapie en santé mentale démontrés par la recherche, la littérature canadienne ne documente encore que peu ce type spécifique de contexte. Pour cette étude, trois musicothérapeutes canadiennes travaillant principalement en santé mentale adolescente ont été rencontrées en entrevues semi-structurées afin de partager leur expérience professionnelle. Trois thèmes ont principalement émergé après analyse de leurs réponses : (a) les principaux buts visés dans ce type de contexte, (b) les structures de programmes généralement établies et (c) les compétences professionnelles requises. Si travailler avec des groupes d’adolescents aux problématiques psychiatriques et psychosociales nécessite de faire appel à des approches spécifiques, les méthodes de travail sont aussi être inhérente à chaque professionnel, et peuvent donc être variées. Elles doivent aussi être adaptables à un contexte souvent imprévisible, mais aussi à une population vulnérable, en constante exploration identitaire et en grand besoin d’ancrage. L’étude met notamment en exergue l’importance de la musicothérapie communautaire, mais aussi la nécessité de valoriser l’individualité, l’histoire personnelle de chaque individu dans le processus thérapeutique.
