Abstract

L’exclusion de groupes minoritaires dans une société est un enjeu incontournable dans les débats sur la démocratie, la liberté et les droits humains. Des événements récents comme la mort de Breonna Taylor et celle de George Floyd, des phénomènes comme les violences systémiques et le mépris social témoignent d’une crise morale en Amériques. Au Québec, très peu de recherches sur les expériences identitaires de femmes noires de seconde génération québécoises et d’origine ethnoculturelle haïtienne ont été réalisées dans le but de comprendre sil elles vivent des oppressions. Ce projet de maîtrise vise à combler davantage ce vide scientifique en présentant la synthèse de huit conversations sur l’identité et l’image de soi auprès de femmes appartenant à cette population. À l’aide de la théorie de l’identité sociale pour interpréter les histoires de ces participantes, j’ai pu conclure qu’il est difficile de maintenir une image positive de soi au Québec, car racisme, sexisme et nationalisme ethnique forment des obstacles à l’émancipation. Malgré la présence de quelques espaces pour se sentir bien dans leurs peaux, en général le manque de respect envers ces femmes brise la promesse d’égalité faite lors de la Révolution Tranquille en accordant à ces dernières un statut politique de second rang. D’autres recherches doivent être faites auprès de cette population afin de soutenir leur dignité et assurer leur place dans l’espace public.
