Abstract
Abstract
The increase in demand for oil and gas extraction and processing inevitably results in waste generation and, consequently, requires treatment to prevent potential risks to human health and the environment. In recent years, biosurfactants, as a green approach to environmental pollution, have gained attention for their low toxicity, biodegradability, and effectiveness, making them a potential substitute for synthetic solutions. However, the substrate cost of biosurfactant production on an industrial scale is a challenge that could be overcome by utilizing agro-industrial wastes. In this study, a total of 12 bacteria were isolated from mature fine tailings under anaerobic conditions, and further screened for biosurfactant production (i.e., blood agar, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) agar, oil displacement, drop collapse, and surface tension). The most efficient strain (D11) was identified as Stutzerimonas stutzeri by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Moreover, biosurfactant production by this strain was t
