Abstract
Lonely People Everywhere is a one-woman, one-act play which explores how experiences of loneliness shape the human desire for connection and belonging. When Eve’s upstairs neighbour commits suicide by drowning in his bathtub, water begins to seep into her bedroom ceiling below. This launches Eve’s obsessive thought patterns, which gradually become all-consuming. Set within the confines of Eve’s own mind, this play follows Eve as she navigates her complex feelings of loneliness, grief, and guilt. Through minimalist staging and intimate direct address, this play aims to collapse the distance between performer and audience, immersing viewers in Eve’s fractured inner world. As the boundaries between the self and the other are blurred through Eve’s derailing obsession, Lonely People Everywhere examines how loneliness can be both isolating and unifying.
